[[File:3778.jpg|left]]When Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace join the crew of the Dawn Treader, Caspian introduces them to the ship's captain, Drinian. Drinian and Caspian explain the voyage's purpose and their adventures thus far. Drinian laughs at Eustace when Eustace complains about the (non-existent) storm. When their friends are captured on the Lone Islands, Drinian plans with Caspian and Lord Bern how to rescue them and reconquer the islands. As they ride through Narrowhaven, all the young women come out to cheer at Drinian, Caspian, and the rest because they are all so handsome. Later during a storm at sea, Drinian manages to keep the Dawn Treader together and steers the ship to Dragon Island. When Eustace in dragon-form lands on the shore between the crew and the ship, Drinian warns Lucy that the dragon's tears could be a ploy. As they approach the dragon, Drinian recognizes the band on its arm as belonging to the Lord Octesian. After Eustace is restored and the quest continues, Drinian steers them safely though the sea-serpent's waters, to Deathwater Island, and then on to the Island of the Voices. After the adventures with the Duffers there, Drinian recounts their journey thus far to the magician Coriakin, who creates two maps of their travels and gives one to Drinian. Later when they are approaching the Dark Island, Drinian does not want to enter, but does after Reepicheep criticizes it as cowardice. They rescue Lord Rhoop there, but Drinian cannot steer them away until Aslan sends a great albatross to lead them out of the darkness. Drinian is there when the last three lords are discovered on Ramandu's Island. When Caspian decides that he is going on with Reepicheep and not returning to Narnia, Drinian is among those who rebuke Caspian for this resolution. After Aslan speaks with Caspian, it is decided that Edmund, Lucy, Eustace, and Reepicheep will go on, and the rest of the crew will return to Narnia.

[[File:3787.jpg|left]]After Caspian's Queen is killed by a serpent, Rilian goes out day after day, week after week, to slay the serpent and avenge his mother. Finally one day Drinian confronts Rilian to stop him from continuing this fruitless quest. Rilian tells Drinian that he no longer thinks of the serpent, but rides out now to see the most beautiful thing he has ever seen in his life. Drinian asks to go with him the following day and Rilian agrees. When they come to the place the Queen had been killed, Drinian looks up and sees the beautiful woman Rilian had spoken of. When she sees Drinian, she disappears. Drinian senses danger but decides not to tell Caspian because he does not want to be a tale-bearer. But when Rilian disappears the following day, Drinian goes to Caspian and confesses that by his silence, Rilian has come to harm. Caspian rushes at him with a battle-axe and Drinian stands stock-still for the blow, but before Caspian kills Drinian he stops himself, saying, "I have lost my queen and my son: shall I lose my friend also?"

==About==
+

-
Drinian is a loyal friend and subject to King Caspian. He is a very skilled captain and steers the Dawn Treader expertly during the voyage. He can be slightly impatient with "landlubbers" trying to interfere with his sailing, though he is never unkind. As befits a captain entrusted with the safety of the crew, Drinian is a cautiously skeptical man, as he shows when he warns Lucy that the dragon's tears could be insincere. On the Dark Island, Drinian does not abandon the wheel even though he, like the others, is beset by terrors. Drinian appears to be of higher birth than the crew members, and after the Dawn Treader returns to Narnia he becomes a lord at Caspian's court. It is assumed that he becomes one of Caspian's most trusted councillors in the affairs of the country. Drinian is a faithful friend to both Caspian and Rilian, and though he misjudges the danger of the beautiful woman who enchants Rilian, he is willing to atone for the mistake with his life.
