==Bio Info== Titles: Sometime Lord Protector, "styling himself King of Narnia" Age: Unknown (he ruled as King of Narnia for thirteen years) Species: Son of Adam, Telmarine Home: A castle in the center of Narnia (north of the Stone Table) Physical Description: No information, except that he is bigger and heavier than Peter First Appearance: Prince Caspian, Ch. 4 (1951) ==Appearances== ===~ Prince Caspian ~ (1951)=== Miraz murdered his brother Caspian IV, the rightful king of Narnia, the same year that his brother's son, Caspian X, was born. Miraz usurped the throne and, after Caspian's mother died, weeded out all the great lords who had known Caspian's father. He persuaded seven of the noble lords to sail away and look for new lands beyond the Eastern Ocean. The Lord Bern later told Caspian that he decided to remain at the Lone Islands because "there was no purpose in returning to Narnia while your Majesty's uncle held the reins." When there was no one left to oppose Miraz, he instructed his "flatterers" to beg him to become king. As king, Miraz attempts to wipe out even the memory of the Old Narnia in which animals talked and the trees were alive. He is startled when his nephew Caspian mentions that his nurse has told him such stories. The next day, Caspian's nurse is removed. When Miraz's wife Prunaprismia bears a son, Caspian's tutor Doctor Cornelius fears that Miraz will kill Caspian, just as Miraz had killed Caspian's father. Caspian flees and begins leading Old Narnia against his uncle. Miraz's army surrounds the Old Narnians' camp at Aslan's How, and it seems that the Telmarines will soon be victorious. But Miraz is persuaded by the lords Glozelle and Sopespian to accept High King Peter's challenge to single combat. During the fight, Miraz trips on a tussock, and is killed by Glozelle in a treacherous act. Glozelle and Sopespian accuse the Narnians of treacherously killing Miraz, and the second Battle of Beruna begins. ==About Miraz== Under Miraz's rule, Narnia was an oppressed land. He was a cruel king; his laws were harsh and his taxes high. And the kind of history taught under his rule was "duller than the truest history you ever read and less true than the most exciting adventure story." Miraz did not allow the old days to be spoken of and did not approve of the sea (as it was said that Aslan always came from over the sea). ==Quotes== *"You're getting too old for that sort of stuff. At your age you ought to be thinking of battles and adventures, not fairy tales." (PC, Ch. 4) *"And never let me catch you talking—or thinking either—about all those silly stories again." (PC, Ch. 4) *"Are you trying, to make it appear that I am as great a coward as your Lordship?" (PC, Ch. 13) *"So I'm to be a dotard with one foot in the grave, as well as a dastard." (PC, Ch. 13) ==Portrayals== *Sergio Castellitto: Disney/Walden Prince Caspian, 2008 Born: 18 August 1953 *Peter Goodwright (voice): Focus on the Family Radio Theater, 1999 – 2002 *Robert Lang: BBC TV series, 1989 – 1990 *Derek Waring (voice): BBC Radio Tales of Narnia
