About Rilian
Rilian is a brave and honorable knight whose chivalry toward women is his defining attribute, but also his most vulnerable point. Out of devotion to his mother he dedicates himself to avenging her death, and as he attempts this he is lured into dangerous enchantment by the Lady of the Green Kirtle. He is then imprisoned in the Underland for ten years, during which he has only one hour a day in which he knows his true self. The rest of the time he spends as the witless and enchanted “pawn” of the powerful Queen of the Underland, who is using him to gain control of Narnia. Even after the Witch has tried to kill them and they have vanquished her, Rilian says, "Yet I am glad, gentlemen, that the foul Witch took to her serpent form at the last. It would not have suited well either with my heart or with my honor to have slain a woman." Rilian displays true courage as they make their escape from the Underland, and his adventurous spirit is stirred by a glimpse of the land of Bism below Underland. He wishes to travel there, but he follows his duty of returning to his ailing father Caspian.
