==Bio Info== Titles: Trumpkin the Dwarf, D.L.F. (Dear Little Friend), Lord Regent Age: Unknown. Though Dwarfs in Narnia are long-lived, he is probably about 50 in Prince Caspian and about 110 in The Silver Chair. Species: Red Dwarf Home: A comfortable cave in the ground in the forest, southwest of the Stone Table; Cair Paravel Physical Description: Very stocky and deep-chested. An immense beard and whiskers of coarse red hair leave little of his face to be seen. He has a beak-like nose and sparkling black eyes, and stands about three feet tall. Tools: Pipe, dagger, sword, bow and arrows First Appearance: Prince Caspian, Ch. 3 (1951) ==About Trumpkin== Trumpkin is a practical thinker. He does not initially believe the stories about Aslan and the four kings and queens. But out of loyalty to Caspian, his king, he volunteers to journey to the Stone Table and seek the help he does not believe will come. "I might as well die on a wild goose chase as die here," he says. Trumpkin has been told all his life that the woods surrounding Cair Paravel were "as full of ghosts as they were of trees." So he is quite relieved when he sees that it is the four Pevensies, flesh and blood, who have rescued him. It is his idea to make use of the fishing tackle in the boat, and the Pevensies are glad to be eating something beside apples. Trumpkin is evidently one of Caspian's most trusted friends, as Caspian leaves him as Lord Regent in his place both times the king sets sail on the Dawn Treader. ==Appearances== ===~ Prince Caspian ~ (1951)=== Trumpkin lives in hiding with the other Old Narnians during Miraz's reign. When he, Trufflehunter, and Nikabrik find Caspian, the rightful king of Narnia, unconscious in the woods, Trumpkin helps take care of him. Soon Trumpkin becomes one of Caspian's strongest supporters. He introduces Caspian to many of the Old Narnians, and fights by his side as they defend Aslan's How from Miraz's army. When the decision is made to blow Queen Susan's horn, Trumpkin volunteers to journey to the ruins of Cair Paravel and look for the promised help, even though he makes it clear that he does not believe in the old legends. Along the way, he risks a shortcut across open country and is captured by the Telmarines. He is taken to be drowned near Cair Paravel when the Pevensies rescue him. He tells them his story, and they realize that it was Susan's horn that has drawn them into Narnia. Trumpkin is still doubtful of their claims until Edmund beats him in a duel, Susan beats him in a shooting match, and Lucy heals his wound. As they make their way to Aslan's How, Trumpkin is among the last to see Aslan. The Dwarf is converted to believing the old legends after Aslan tosses him up in the air a few times and gently catches him. After the second Battle of Beruna, King Caspian bestows the Knighthood of the Order of the Lion upon Trumpkin. ===~ The Voyage of the Dawn Treader ~ (1952)=== Trumpkin is left at Cair Paraval as Lord Regent while Caspian undertakes the quest to sail to the end of the world searching for the lost Lords of Narnia. ===~ The Silver Chair ~ (1953)=== Fifty years after the voyage of the Dawn Treader, Trumpkin is reappointed Lord Regent as King Caspian sets sail once again to seek Aslan in the Lone Islands. Not long after the king leaves, Trumpkin meets Eustace and Jill. Since his hearing is poor, it takes him some time to understand that they have been sent by Aslan. But when he does understand, he tells Glimfeather the Owl to see that bedchambers and clothes are provided for them and to "see that they're properly washed." Glimfeather warns the children not to tell Trumpkin of their mission to find Prince Rilian, because Caspian had forbidden anyone to undertake that task. Many Narnian heroes had vanished in the search for the Prince, and it is likely that Trumpkin would not allow Jill and Eustace to go. Trumpkin is present when Caspian sees his son Rilian for the last time. ===~ The Last Battle ~ (1956)=== Trumpkin is there to welcome the friends of Narnia at the final reunion. ==Quotes== *"Beards and bedsteads! So there really is a castle, after all?" (PC, Ch. 3) *"Bulbs and bolsters! Nikabrik. Why need you talk so unhandsomely? It isn't the creature's fault that it bashed its head against a tree outside our hole." (PC, Ch. 5) *"Now, once and for all, Nikabrik. Will you contain yourself, or must Trufflehunter and I sit on your head?" (PC, Ch. 5) *"But why stop at Trees and Waters? Wouldn't it be even nicer if the stones started throwing themselves at old Miraz?" (PC, Ch. 6) *"Thimbles and thunderstorms! Is that how you speak to the King?" (PC, Ch. 7) *"You are my King. I know the difference between giving advice and taking orders. You've had my advice, and now it's the time for orders." (PC, Ch. 7) *"And I said to myself, 'If that's not the Horn, call me a rabbit.'" (PC, Ch. 8) *"Cobbles and kettledrums! I hope this madness isn't going to end in a moonlight climb and broken necks." (PC, Ch. 10) *"Weights and water-bottles! It's me you're sitting on. Get off. You're like a young elephant." (PC, Ch. 12) *"What's that? The girls are all killed! I don't believe a word of it. What girls? Who killed 'em? (SC, Ch. 3) *"I tell you what it is, Master Glimfeather; when I was a young Dwarf there used to be talking beasts and birds in this country who really could talk. There wasn't all this mumbling and muttering and whispering." (SC, Ch. 3) ==Portrayals== *Peter Dinklage: Disney/Walden Prince Caspian, 2008 Born: 11 June 1969 *Chris Emmett (voice): Focus on the Family Radio Theater, 1999 – 2002 *Big Mick: BBC TV series, 1989 – 1990 *Richard Griffiths (voice): BBC Radio Tales of Narnia
